Many analog threads become productive once everyone agrees on what was measured, where it was measured, and what the reference node actually was.
- Measure at the component, not only at the connector
- State probe ground and bandwidth settings
- Separate source noise from layout-coupled noise
- Check load dependence and startup behavior
- Verify whether the reference is drifting or the signal is drifting
If the waveform changes when the probe changes, that fact matters.
